Folkemødet 2026 - bringing blockchain to the center of debate
Nordic Blockchain Association is on Bornholm for the annual democracy event, Folkemødet. This year is made particular significant by both the recent Danish political environment as well as the recent surge in institutional and retail interst and adoption in crypto and digital assets.

This year's Folkemødet comes at an important moment for Denmark's and the Nordics blockchain and digital assets industry.

With Denmark’s new government constellation getting to work, important discussions should be progressing on crypto taxation and other regulatory frameworks shaping the growth of our industry.

The momentum is tangible: In recent months, multiple banks in Denmark Danske Bank, Jyske Bank, Nordea, SEB, and Handelsbanken have joined the Qivalis euro stablecoin consortium and accelerated their engagement with digital assets. Combined with the estimated 510.000 private crypto owners in Denmark, both the institutional and retail adoption send a clear signal.

At the same time, we are seeing significant progress in digital identity, with initiatives such as Dewa and e-Boks' wallet solutions, alongside recent digital identity launches from Partisia and Digitaliseringsstyrelsen, demonstrating how Danish companies are helping build the next generation of trusted digital infrastructure.

Tomorrow, June 11 at 12-14, our CEO Jakob Mikkel Hansen will take the stage alongside Danske Bank, Visa, The Danish National Bank, public elected and major Danish Banks, discussing the role of stablecoins in the future Danish financial landscape.

The opportunity is clear: Denmark has the talents, institutions, and innovative companies to lead the next generation of digital infrastructure - from digital assets and payments to identity and trusted data systems. Realising that potential will require collaboration and forward-looking policymaking.
